The holidays are upon us and although I still have lots going on behind the scenes I am taking a little break from the blog.

I will be back in early January with a new website and lots of exciting news

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for coming along on this journey with me in 2014. It has been a fantastic year and I have met so many amazing knitty folk from all corners of the globe. I have really enjoyed watching you knit my patterns and have loved getting to know you through this space on the internet.

2015 is going to be an exciting year, there are lots of changes afoot here but some things will remain the same. I will be here blogging about all things fibre related, I will still be knitting and designing in all my spare time and Jo and I will be chatting every two weeks about my undying love of socks.

A few final bits and pieces before I sign off for the year

If you want to keep up with my holidays festivities you can follow me on Instagram (most likely to be filled with knitting and food) or on Twitter.

I will be taking part in the TGS is one KAL. A celebration of one year of The Golden Skein where we are knitting my latest shawl pattern Kunye. If you have a single skein of fingering weight yarn and fancy a good knit-along pop over to this thread and join in.

Kunye_Low Res_05 Discount

If you want to buy this pattern or any of my other patterns you can take advantage of a special discount code I set up for Aplayfulday and her ‘me-along’ – use the code ‘playful’ and you will get 33% off anything in my Ravelry store until the 31st December.

Workshops

If you want to book in for a 2015 workshop my schedules are now up on the relevant shop websites. I will be teaching in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow in January and February.

January and February slots at Ginger Twist Studio, Edinburgh teaching a range of workshops.

January and February slots at Queen of Purls, Glasgow teaching a range of workshops.

7th February at Fluph, Dundee teaching Magic Loop and Finishing School.

I also have an exciting slot at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. If you want to get to grips with socks this is the perfect opportunity to master the basics. It would also make a great christmas present for the knitter in your life.

Sock Surgery

Finally if you have some free time and want to listen to the first few episodes of the Sock Surgery segment on the Shinybees podcast this is a great time to catch up. We will be announcing the knit-along and lots of other exciting bits in the new year.

That is it from me for now folks. I hope you have a wonderful holiday break. With lots of time for knitting and relaxing.

Here’s to a fantastic 2015!

See you in a few weeks.

Happy knitting.

Celebrate Wool

I am still reeling from the news that it is November, but that is another story all together. The fact it is November may have terrified me but it brings with it some very exciting news and lots of lovely knitwear opportunities thanks to the approaching winter weather.

To celebrate a warm and woolly November I want to give a shout out to the fantastic initiative that is “Wovember”. A truly wonderful celebration of all things wool. Pop over and have a look.

Wovember_www

Part of the Wovember team is the ever wonderful Louise from Knit British. If there is someone who knows a bit about wool, and more specifically fantastic British wool. Louise is your gal. Her blog and podcast are fantastic resources for those wanting to know more about (British) wool.

Knit British

If you are worried that knitting with wool might be an expensive habit check out her fabulous features on British yarns for under a tenner and a fiver.

Finally, I’m very excited about some simply stunning British wool that has been running through my fingers (and around my needles) recently and can’t wait to share the details with you this Friday. Louise also has a special interview on her blog with Jess from Ginger’s Hand Dyed about our new exciting project. Make sure you book mark Friday 7th of November in your diary to get the scoop on the latest news from your favourite Edinburgh woolly duo.

Hope you have a fabulous week.

Happy knitting.

Flash Sale: Day 4

At the start of this month I released the warm and snuggly Elgin socks. They were the final installment of the Head to Toe series and are the perfect addition to your winter wardrobe. Perfect for keeping your toes warm and toast as you snuggle on the couch under a warm blanket.

Elgin sock_blog_sale-01

It is gloomy and grey in Edinburgh today, and so I thought it would be fitting to feature the Elgin socks as my Socktober discount for today. Use the code “Socktober5” to get 50% off Elgin (£3 to £1.50) until midnight on the 31st of October.

Most sizes can be knitted with 100g of aran weight wool and the pattern is sized from newborn to adult L, so all the family can have warm toes this winter.

Jess from Ginger Twist Studio and I can’t get enough of this pattern and have knitted three pairs between us already. Two pairs in Ginger’s Hand Dyed Humming Aran (a luxurious Alpaca / Merino / Nylon blend) and one adult pair in Brigantia Luxury Aran (a wonderful British wool). I also have another pair on the needles for my toddler in Drops Nepal (wool / Alpaca blend).

What will you knit your Elgin socks in?

Here are some pictures of Elgin to inspire you.

Head to Toe KAL-01-01

Hope you are having a wonderful week. It is pretty chilly in Edinburgh today and it has spurred me on to work on my Elgin socks in lovely squishy Brigantia.

Are you knitting anything from the Head to Toe collection? Come and join us in the “knit-a-long” currently running in the Ravelry group. It is a very relaxed affair, a place for knitting and chatting about knitting. Any pattern from the Head to Toe collection goes and you can use any yarn. There are prizes too, including some gorgeous hand dyed yarn from Ginger Twist Studio and some other exciting goodies.

The group is a friendly place to chat and show off your latest Yarn and Pointy Sticks knitwear. I love to see finished objects (and wips) from my designs.

Have a wonderful week.

Workshops

I also started my teaching programme for October at Ginger Twist Studio this past Sunday.

In the morning I taught some fabulous ladies how to knit two socks at once using magic loop. I love this class as it is very rewarding to see the ‘spaghetti junction’ style of knitting needles, cables and yarn gradually unfurl to become a pair of socks. I caught up with both knitters last night at our local knit night and they are coming along well, ready for next weeks class.

I also taught a beginner sock knitting workshop. This is perfect for those of you who have yet to knit your first pair of socks.

In the workshop you create a mini sock and practice all the techniques you need to create your own larger sock

I have a jam packed teaching schedule coming up this month with sock workshops in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow. There are still a few spaces left at some workshops – if you want to try your hand at sock knitting, what are you waiting for?

Toe up socks and Heel Masterclass  at Ginger Twist Studio, Edinburgh (contact Jess to book or for more details)I also have some other exciting beginner classes and a special workshop on getting to grip with cables in November.

In November I will be at Fluph teaching my Beginner Sock workshop and Finishing School (finish those knitted beauties off in style).

The book is being stocked at some lovely local yarn shops in Scotland, and I am very excited to announce that Jess from Ginger Twist Studio and I are hosting a book signing next week on the 11th October at 4pm. Come along to see the samples and have a chat. There will be some bubble and nibbles too. It would be great to see you there.

It’s here …

This morning I waited and watched out of the window … eagerly awaiting this …

Barcode

Yes folks, I have a published book. A real book, with an ISBN and a glossy cover. I am still in shock. It has taken many months of hard work to get here, but I made it. My first published book. I am very very excited.

Head to Toe_box

Head to Toe is a collection of five gorgeous knits, designed by me, featuring Ginger’s Hand Dyed yarn.

Those of you who read the blog regularly will have already seen Montrose, Brunswick and Edina. On the 1st of October I will release the final pattern, Elgin. At the same time I will be launching the e-book and print book.

Originally the collection was four pieces but check back tomorrow for a sneak peak of an exciting fifth design.

What to get your hands on a copy of the print book? Pop over to my Big Cartel shop where you can pre-order your copy. They will be posted on Tuesday as first class mail within the UK, in preparation for the launch on Wednesday. The book costs £12 plus £1.99 P&P (UK).

If you order the print book, you will be sent a download code for the complete collection as a digital copy that can be downloaded on Ravelry (you will receive this within 24 hours of your print order being placed), meaning you can already start knitting your favourite of the three designs that have been released.

Just want an e-book, pop over to the Ravelry store where you can get the full e-book for £10 or pick up a single pattern of your favourite design.

I can’t wait to share the final two with you. Until tomorrow…

Happy knitting,
